Garners 2018 The Whanau Reserve Shiraz

A Tribute to Family, Friendship and a Lasting Legacy

The 2018 The Whanau Reserve Shiraz is a special wine in the Garners Heritage Wine story. Produced from single-vineyard, estate-grown Shiraz in Longwood East, Victoria, it represents not only the quality of our vineyard but also the enduring legacy of Leon Garner.

After a distinguished 27-year academic career as a Professor of Optometry in New Zealand, Leon devoted the final 11 years of his life to planting and nurturing the vineyard, pursuing his passion for producing exceptional Shiraz. Sadly, Leon passed away in August 2016 following a long battle with cancer.

His wife Rosie continued their winemaking journey with the extraordinary support of family and friends.

Whanau is a Māori word meaning extended family, encompassing not only relatives but also friends and the wider community. This wine is a heartfelt tribute to those who helped carry Leon's vision forward.

Tasting Notes

Displaying a deep red colour with a vibrant purple hue, this generous Shiraz offers inviting aromas of forest berries and plum pudding. These rich fruit characteristics flow through to a full, beautifully balanced palate, complemented by well-integrated oak and smooth, rich tannins that carry through to a satisfying finish.

A Wine with a Story

More than a fine Shiraz, the 2018 The Whanau Reserve is a celebration of family, friendship, perseverance and the legacy of a remarkable man. A meaningful wine to share with those who matter most.
